Kate Flores moved to the Triangle area in 1996.
She began working for the American Dance Festival at Duke University, and studying
"yoga for dancers". Initially, she explored yoga as a way to
stay physically limber and strong, but as her family and responsibilities grew,
her yoga practice deepened and became a time for cultivating both quietness and
personal reflection, as well as increased vitality and health.
Kate teaches a form of vinyasa yoga, that focuses on simple poses that flow from one to another at a comfortable pace, taking time to focus on breathing and meditation within the practice.
Kate strives to help students approach asana gently, deeply and thoughtfully encouraging movement at the individuals pace. The practice is excellent for beginning or advanced students welcoming gentle openings and mindful movement. She hopes that her students will carry into their day a feeling of calm, strength, and an awareness of the body mind connection.
Kate obtained her BA in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a Masters degree in Archival Science from the University of Oklahoma. She was employed at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, and following a move to the southeast, at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. From 1997 to 2005, Kate owned and operated "Vintage Design", an antique art wholesale and consulting business. She and her family now live in Chapel Hill.
